Sumner J. YAFFE, M.D., Director of the Center for Research for Mothers and Children at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health, received his A.B. in Chemistry and M.A. in Pharmacology from Harvard University and his medical degree from the University of Vermont School of Medicine.
Dr. Yaffe was a Fulbright Scholar, and has been awarded: the Lederle Medical Faculty Award, Wall Memorial Lecturer, Editor, Pediatric Clinics of North America, Upjohn Lecturer, Louisville Pediatric Lectureship; and is an honorary member of the Society of Perinatal Obstetricians, Guest Editor, Clinics in Perinatology, Creasy Visiting Professorship; and the Hardt Memorial Lecturer. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha and Sigmi Xi honorary societies.
Dr. Yaffe has held academic and staff appointments at Stanford University Medical Center, State University of New York, Buffalo, and Children's Hospital of Buffalo, and at the University of Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Yaffe has also served as a member or chairman of more than 40 committees and advisory boards of organizations dealing with child health and clinical pharmacology.
Dr. Yaffe has published more than 200 articles in the area of pediatrics and clinical pharmacology.
